commissioned by Another Sky / in collaboration with no hay banda and more specifically daniel áñez (piano), noam bierstone (percussion), and kalun leung (trombone). i am grateful for their sensitive approach to the piece and our exchanges

the piece's simplicity continues to surprise me, so i'll keep its description also succinct. it consists of monodic, unmeasured, shadowed melodic lines, gradual shifts of modalities, and chords or scales in-between. neither state precedes the other; rather, they coexist and continually transform one another. the score places its emphasis on the musicians' work of interpretation: its shape is determined by the attentive understanding Daniel, Noam, and Kalun bring to each other, and the space this opens between them.
